In May 2017, Village Voices Choir entered the Upton upon Severn Choir Festival where we sang 4 pieces. 5 other choirs also took part. Each choir sang the set piece “Something Inside So Strong” by Labi Siffre and 3 of their own choice.
It was an excellent festival giving everyone the opportunity to hear the other choirs.
The event started with a performance of a Reindeer Herding song sung by Hanley Voices supported by 2 (wooden) reindeer. Their conductor Ben Sawyer used this piece as the basis for a warm-up workshop for everyone.
After this the running order was announced. Each choir left the venue 15 minutes ahead of their performance slot and had the opportunity to warm up in the church hall and were ushered back by very helpful festival assistants.
Guest choir “Close Harmony” then performed a number of songs before the judges awarded a cup for their choice choir and another for the most outstanding choir.
